Sunshine Girl

When everything's gone wrong
And writing another lovesick song
Is so much more than you can manage

When angst is your mission
But the crowd's too drunk or bored to listen
I'll be the space where you can place your damage

I will be your sunshine girl
The light down the well
Of your secretive world

I will be your sunshine girl
The thaw on that cold
Indulgence of yours

Yeah, I will be your sunshine girl
The one that sets each night to dream
That you might dream of her

When all the heartache that felt so tragic
Begins to lose its anguished magic
And the message becomes just a mess

When everyone has had enough
You've splintered through your final crutch
And you can't even believe your own press

I will be your sunshine girl
I'll rise up to dry
The rain of your fears

I will be you sunshine girl
Restore your strength
So you can battle your wars

Yeah, I will be your sunshine girl
The one that sets each night to dream
That you might dream of her

Until you've finally absorbed so much of yourself
You're gasping and choking on everything else
And nothing seems deep or sounds profound
In that last wet breath before you drown

I would have been your sunshine girl
I would have brightened your whole damned world
I would have set each night to dream
That you might dream of me

Yeah, I would have been your sunshine girl
I would have set each night to dream
That you might dream of me

An Unrequited Love

An unrequited love
Is not a quiet thing

It's the constant chippering
Background chatter
Drowning the sound of what once mattered

It's a mumbled grumble
Beneath the breath
Wallowing whispers to the deaf

It's a three a.m wail
Insomniatic alarm
Alerting the heart of imminent harm

An unrequited love
Is the loudest thing
No one ever hears
